I always love it when I'm trusted to photograph an event in an reportage/documentary style... to be simply asked to come along & document what's happening, without interference or contrivance. That trust is magnified when the event is one in which the organisers have, clearly, invested their heart & souls into; as was the case at Echo Echo's Contact Improvisation Festival 2018.
Now that Echo Echo has released details for the second edition of their Festival, www.echoechodance.com/cifestival, it felt like as good an excuse as any to share some of my photography from an afternoon spent at their first...

It was an honour to be invited by Derry Writer's Group & Guildhall Press to come along and take some photographs at the launch of, my cousin, Julieann Campbell's Milk Teeth - her first collection of solo poetry. With the press photography already taking care of I was free to wander the Central Library and take a more documentary approach to the evening- capturing some of the emotion & reactions of those family, friends, (and fans) there to share the night with Julieann. (It was great to be able to take to adopt the same documentary approach that I love to take at weddings.) Congratulations to Jules, and everyone involved in what was a great evening; Oh, and if for any reason you haven't got yourself a copy yet just click here!
So after months of preparation the Saturday of the City of Derry Jazz Festival came along and it was time for the Second Line NI Parade. Unfortuately no one thought to book the sunshine (boo!)... but the damp weather didn't dampen the spirits of the musician, young and not-so-young, or the JayDee BrassBand who again lead the way... and sure the sky was a lot brighter by the end of the city centre parade route; as Amanda Koser, Secondline NI Director & founder put it 'the kids danced away the rain'... Have a look over on Secondline NI's Facebook Page for some more photos....
