A Look Back at a Family-Focussed Bishops Gate Hotel Wedding....

And Happy 9th Anniversary to Grainne & Andy...

A slight detour from the normal 'latest work' that I tend to post here, but nine years on it still feels very relevant to share a few of Grainne & Andy's wedding photos, so I'm sure you'll forgive me the indulgence before I get back to uploading a few of my more recent work...

Their wedding was quite early on in my 'wedding photography' career.. it's fair to say it was the day that reinforced my love for a documentary approach and for blending into the day as best possible to capture what is happening without influencing it any more than is unavoidable...

Grainne & Andy themselves played no small part in that journey, their day was never going to be about doing what was deemed traditional or expected, rather it was going to all about them & their family. So when they saw the work I was sharing at the time they fully bought into the different approach I was taking - with my intention to document a wedding day at it really was, rather than ticking off a list of 'must-have' shots...

They were also only too aware how quickly their day was going to pass, so they wanted to make the absolute most of it by spending every moment they could with the family & friends they'd invited to share their day; it has since become a bit of a cliche but it really was a case of getting photos that were all about their day, rather than planning a day around the photos... I don't think they doubted their decision for a second on the day or afterwards, with the passage of time since only reinforcing how important all those wee moments were...

As aside it was the first time I'd shot at Bishops Gate Hotel, unsurprisingly now I think about it as it had only opened a few months previous; it's interesting how certain venues attract certain types of couples, luckily for me there seems to be a correlation with those who fall for the charms of Bishops Gate, and those who want the natural & relaxed approach to wedding photography that I offer - it has become the venue I would return to most often over the years...

So anyway - here's a look (back) at Graine & Andy's big day...
