When you attend (or photograph) a wedding day you get a chance to see the couples vision come to life, the one day finale of months, or quite often years of planning. What you maybe don't see is all the people who work behind the scenes to make everything come together as planned; included among these good folks would be the cake makers, who'll have put in weeks of preparation, chatting to the couple, researching ideas, sourcing details, sketching designs before finally spending the week before the wedding locked away in the kitchen.
I've been lucky enough to witness at first hand the dedication, determination and downright love for all things cake related of my other half - Pretty Elegant Cakes It's a challenge to do justice to the intricacies of each of her individual designed cakes, but here's some of my attempts from The Manor House Country Hotel An Grainan Hotel The Red Door Country House The Ballyliffin Lodge Hotel, The Redcastle Hotel, The Mount Errigal Hotel, and the White Horse Hotel (to name a few!)

When Aodhan's mum and dad first got in touch to organise a photoshoot for their wee man there were a few thousand more complications than we'd expected... firstly the typically Irish summer didn't bless us with too many suitable nice days this year... so when good weather was forecast for a day that everyone was free we made our plans to head to his favourite places for a day out - St Columb's Park & Ebrington... seemingly the perfect plan, until the penny dropped that we were going to be there right in the middle of the Waterside Half Marathon!!
A Plan B was quickly hatched, and with agreement from the kind folks of the Beech Hill Country House Hotel we headed off to explore their grounds, after meeting up at their home to be introduced to Momo The Monkey, and Postman Pat among others. Here's how we got on... (and there's no prizes for guessing who might just steal the show when I'm photographing his mum and dad's wedding in the Red Door Country House next July!) I'm delighted to be sharing the story of Melissa & Rory's big day. From the moment I first met with Melissa earlier this year it was obvious that she had no intention of getting stressed about the upcoming big day, but rather was going to enjoy every minute and embrace the chance to celebrate with family and friends. And enjoy their day is exacly what Rory & Melissa did.
The wedding mass was celebrated in St Mary's Oratory, Buncrana, followed by the reception in the Ballyliffen Lodge Hotel, where Goodfella's provided the soundtrack to the evening. I should also say it was a pleasure to work alongside Hugh from HQ Videos. |
